African servals are a long lean cat with long legs, a shorter tail, small heat and very large ears. Their extra-long neck and legs give them the nickname "giraffe cat." Servals have a coat that is tawny with black or brown spots. Some can have very light background with black or brown spots. They average 25 to 40 pounds.
Servals love to jump, climb and play in the water. In the wild they share their space with Caracal and other medium size cat’s. When hunting for prey they like to hide in the grass and pounce on their prey. They like to jump up and snatch it from the air also.
Servals have a varied diet, eating birds, reptiles, and frogs. Standing on its hind legs, a serval can jump more than 9 feet straight up to grab a bird right out of the air. But small rodents are its most frequent prey item, and a serval doesn’t hesitate to reach down into a rodent's burrow to snatch a meal out of the burrow. Servals can hear rodents in their burrow with their huge ears.
The serval is the most successful predator of all the cats. It’s many hunting styles allows it to prey on many different animals.
Servals don’t breed in any specific time of year. They usually have 3 kittens to a litter, but can have up to 6. They can have up to 2 litters per year.
